Fantastic Results from our Foundations for Attachment Programme
Over the past four years, we have had the privilege of delivering Kim Golding’s Foundations for Attachment training to over 230 caregivers in Aotearoa / New Zealand. This training gives a deeper insight into why our children in care ‘do, think and behave as they do’.
This training provides the understanding and prompts participants, both caregivers and professionals in the sector, to look into how to be a therapeutic parent. The aim is to ensure that our tamariki (children) are healed not held in care. One of the key focuses of the programme is how to implement PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) as a way of being with children. This gives caregivers the opportunity to review current practices and try a new approach with support and guidance from the programme.
The programme concludes with ongoing support meetings so participants can share experiences and be encouraged to integrate what they have learned into their daily lives.
We have recently completed our Foundations for Attachment programme with caregivers in Levin and have received wonderful feedback.
“Many light bulb moments that give much reason for hope.”
“I feel I have the tools to become a therapeutic parent, with practice!”
“So great having time and structure to reflect and get insights on our own parenting whys and how’s.”
“Validating; confirming, re-energising. Nga mihi korua.”
Our final session in Levin finished with strong friendships and everyone looking forward to getting together for ongoing support in the following months. This training programme was made possible with the generous support of the Tai Shan Foundation.
This training is held one day a week, over four weeks. Followed by a further five support group meetings held monthly.
This is a training that is well worth the time. The lessons you will learn will help you, not only with providing care to your children, but also can be applied to so many other interactions in your life.
