Te tīmatanga o te matauranga ko te wahangū

Te wāhanga tuarua ko te whakarongo

The first stage of learning is silence, the second stage is listening

This whakatauki causes me to reflect on how I learn and how I teach.  Being in a role that requires presenting information and learning material, my goal is always to make the material relevant and therefore useful to the learner.

I have enjoyed delivering the “Making Changes” module online over February, March, and hope that those who have participated in these trainings found space to share their stories of strength and struggle.  In the caregiving world there is always a reliable balance between strength and struggle, it keeps us humble (we do not always get our approach right) and with a sense of satisfaction (when we do get ‘it’ right) when we succeed in meeting the needs of our tamariki mokopuna.

Our Caring Families Aotearoa written training material is building on each other with the new ‘Difficult Behaviours’ ready for presentation soon.  So, there’s ‘What’s Behind the Behaviour?’, ‘Making Changes’ and ‘Difficult Behaviours’ which are all super topical for you and I as caregivers.  I would love to hear how you have put any of the material into practice and even stories of what did not work for you.  Drop me a line via email, messenger, text or pick up the phone and give me a call…. give me the opportunity to put the second stage of learning into practice.
