Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa / Warm greetings to you all,
Well Canterbury, we’ve had another of many chances to adapt! In 10 years we’ve navigated a number of really tough situations, and while we might be somewhat weary – we’re adapting well again.
There’s an opportunity as life begins to move toward the new normal – to give yourself a chance to slow down and set new boundaries to look after yourself and your whānau. Our community has faced the same challenge as the rest of Aotearoa, with the addition of tamariki / children who have experienced other trauma in their young lives.
As the trusted adult, you’ve been doing your best to meet their needs – which we know can be complex at the best of times! It’s quite likely your personal well-being is not registering very high on your radar right now – so I encourage you to make a step (big or small) to do something that will fill YOUR bucket this week / month (even better, daily!).

When I speak with members of our Caring Families Aotearoa whānau, it’s apparent to me that the challenges are great, but love and determination are greater. Even so, don’t underestimate the value of support, and reach out if you’re not okay.
