Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa / Warm greetings to you all,
Welcome to May and the cooling temps and the shorter days!
You will be preparing tamariki to go back to school after the holidays for term 2, so I hope you are all rested and have had an opportunity to have some fun and recharge the batteries. For some, you will be needing the respite that the school offers.

The last term I seemed to be everywhere else doing workshops/trainings but did manage to hold a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) discussion session in Nelson. This was an informative session that allowed caregivers to offer and share such valuable experiences and offer each other perspectives that come from a lived experience. It isn’t always possible to have a diagnosis of FASD for various reasons and sometimes we aren’t sure ourselves as caregivers whether it is what we are dealing with, but to be informed and knowledgeable about this enables us to have some tools in our kete to support our tamariki. As this was an evening session, I am interested to hear whether any of you are keen for me to repeat it in the daytime or weekend.
Our support groups around the region are being very well attended and it is magnificent to see so many supporting each other. Please keep connected through our Facebook page and those that are running the group, remember to post when your group is next meeting, we are all appreciative of the reminders in our busy lives!
I look forward to catching up either in those groups or at the workshops we have on offer this term. We also have online options and specialised training options. To find out more, click the button below:
Have a great start to the new term, check those smoke alarms before winter really takes hold.
Kia kaha kia maia kia manawanui – Thanks for being strong, steadfast and willing.
