Bay of Plenty Foster Care Association
The Bay of Plenty Foster Care Association came to a close at their final AGM last month. We want to say thank you to all who were involved in the association over the 15 years it was running.
Along with monthly organised support group meetings and committee meetings, the association held yearly events which many caregivers and children enjoyed attending.
The Big Splash, held at Rainbow Springs in Rotorua, was a highlight on their event calendar. Over 100 caregivers and children would attend, coming from all over the Bay of Plenty region. Other events that were enjoyed were the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Kids Christmas Parties, and Caregiver Dinners. The Annual Easter Egg Hunt ran for 10 years and was very popular, with many very excited children attending each year.
The highlights for the Support Group Liaisons were the connections formed with the caregivers and children over the years. “One of the goals was that children knew there were other children just like them”.
Because of the regular events and support group meetings held, children and caregivers have formed lifelong friendships.
If you are in the Bay of Plenty or anywhere in New Zealand and are interested in starting a Support Group, please get in touch and we can support you in getting the group up and running. We have support groups throughout Aotearoa where caregivers can connect, share experiences and have a coffee together.
