Kia ora Koutou

I have recently had the privilege of being the Mother of the Bride for my foster daughter, a young lady who has grown up in the “Green team”. It was a perfect day amongst the very big blended family that ours is.

As I continue on my care journey, I often find myself reflecting on what, how, when, if, I should do things that hold great importance in my children’s lives, and then spend more time reflecting on what, how, when, if, I did those things the best way I could have, should have! I have made mistakes, I have had great success, I continue to learn and it is only by truly seeing my child’s experience through their eyes that I can make the best decisions for and with them. ‘It isn’t always easy’ is an understatement.

I count myself very blessed indeed that on my girl’s biggest day, she could have both Mums sitting together, (with shared tears of both joy and reflection), there to greet her as she walked up the aisle.

A wedding party blended with biological and foster siblings, of other families, some also blended in varying ways but united for one purpose.  I am profoundly aware that this did not come about by accident or without sacrifice and I acknowledge that it is not always possible for everyone.  I’m glad that for this day, the stars aligned for us.

It is fast approaching the next school holidays and Easter, and I hope you are all looking forward to them, after what is always a busy first term. We have had several new Upper South caregiving families join us, so please look to join our Private Facebook group here to keep on top of announcements between newsletters.

Training

We have limited training available in April due to the school holidays, but our term two calendar will be available soon through this link (due to be published during the holidays) so make sure you check back in for updates on what workshops will be available. I hope to see both regular and new faces join us as I know that together we learn new things, and support often happens when we join forces.

Events

Final planning is being done on our West Coast Hui which will be held in Westport, please keep an eye on your inbox and Facebook for details and invites. We also have an event in the making for Blenheim – more details to come on that once they are firmed up!
