Tēnā koutou katoa

It has been a very busy year already and now with the school holidays on the horizon there will be little to no rest for some of us.

I can’t stress enough the importance of looking after yourself. Whether it’s a walk in the fresh air or a coffee with friends, these small acts of self-care can help us through a difficult day. The holidays can be a crazy time with the break in our children’s routines.

Events

As I settle into my new region, I want to explore the North East and get out and about and connect with as many of our members as possible.  I am in the throes of planning some events to celebrate you.  Keep an eye on the North East Facebook Support Group (link provided at the bottom of this page) for what’s coming up and save the date.

As part of Foster Care Awareness, we ran a competition on our Facebook Support Group page and our National Facebook page to give away a wonderful haul of L’Oréal products in appreciation of your mahi and aroha. We had two lucky winners in the North East region, and I hope you enjoyed your goodies.

Training

I am delighted to announce that in Term Two we will launch our much-anticipated new self-directed learning platform. This has been developed in response to feedback from you about making training more accessible for everyone to take part in. To find out more about the first two courses we are releasing, please click here.

We also have our last facilitated online training this month:

Helping Children Feel Safe – 3 & 4 April
The emotional age of some tamariki growing up in care can be very different from their actual age. Lisa, our Canterbury Regional Coordinator will host this workshop over two 1.5 hour sessions, helping you to learn more about therapeutic parenting and how to use structure and supervision to help a child feel secure.

To find out more and register, please click here.

I had a lovely day and lots of giggles recently with these beautiful people. Our Difficult Behaviours workshop in Matamata was kindly hosted by the very lovely Jacqui Toung, the Support Group Coordinator in Matamata.
