Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa / Warm greetings to you all

Take care everyone in this isolation period.  Stay safe, stay home and lets unite to eradicate COVID-19.

Kia kaha, be strong!  I know it can be challenging not being able to use those things around us to get our tamariki out and burn off some energy.  I hear you!  I’ve searched many websites for things to keep our tamariki occupied over this time at home.  Please keep in touch if you need a listening ear or your situation seems to be becoming very challenging.  Caring Families Aotearoa are working throughout this time in our homes, to serve you.  Please contact us if you need to.  We are going to do our best to connect with each one of you over the next coming weeks.

Foster Care Awareness Week

We had an amazing time at events over Foster Care Awareness week. Here’s a snapshot:

Appreciation Lunch West Auckland

We had approx. 30 caregivers attend lunch, which was co-hosted with Pamela from the West Auckland Foster Care Association. It was lovely to be able to share some giveaways from L’Oréal and Foster Hope.

Auckland Appreciation Dessert Evening

We had about 80 caregivers, whanau and tamariki join us at this event co-hosted by Caring Families Aotearoa, GRG (Grandparents raising Grandchildren) and Youth Horizons. It was lovely to be also supported by VOYCE Whakarongo Mai who did a wonderful dessert table and activities with the tamariki and rangatahi. For the adults, we had a wonderful time of whakawhanaungatanga (establishing relationships) which created a real sense of connection before we enjoyed yummy desserts and giveaways by L’Oréal and Foster Hope.

Pamper Day Auckland

We had about 70 caregivers attend this day of connection and restoration which was co-hosted with Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and supported by VOYCE once again. We had the opportunity of listening to Dr Tess Moeke-Maxwell share her grandparenting trials and tribulations and hearing about the wonderful meditation APP that her and her partner have developed. The Pamper stations included Chinese massage, Reiki, nails, hair ups, makeups and eyelash/eye-brow shapes and tints.

A BIG thanks to Kate and her team at Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, Lata and her team at VOYCE and my two friends who volunteered all day as my helpers (Whoop, whoop; Tracey and Angela!). We were also able to share giveaways from florists, L’Oréal and Foster Hope.

THANK YOU!

NONE of these events would be anything without the attendance by you, so many thanks for coming along and accepting our gratitude for all that you do.  And a huge thanks to our sponsors who supported this Foster Care Awareness Week and made it even more special.

Tiaki Koe i a Koe (Take Care of Yourself – especially at this time!)
