Welcome to June! I’m not sure about you but I am a little shocked that we are nearly halfway through 2022! I hope you and your tamariki are keeping warm and dry as we settle into the cooler winter months.

At this time of year, some of us will be celebrating Matariki, a time to give thanks for the year that has been and look ahead to the next. How will you be celebrating? Do you have any traditions within your whānau? Are there stories, activities, kai and people that come to mind when you think of Matariki?

I am reminded that not all tamariki and rangatahi in our care will be able to spend this time with their biological whānau, so whatever form your celebrations take, I hope it is a meaningful time for you and your family over the next few weeks. If you’re interested in exploring some community or home-based activities during Matariki, here a few that might be an option:

Training

Training is in full swing this month, there is still time to register for our Difficult Behaviours – Managing Confrontation and Intimidating Interactions workshop (in person). Training dates are:

  • Wednesday 8th June 2022, 10:00am – 1:30pm (Silverdale)
  • Tuesday 28th June 2022, 9:30am – 1:00pm (Sunnyvale)

Events

Our wonderful Regional Committee have organised a fun and interesting mid-year event for you and your whānau to enjoy. A fun filled afternoon to learn about the night sky at the Stardome Observatory.
