My first full-time school holidays balancing work with Nana’s duties done and dusted and I learned some very valuable lessons!
Number 1; Do not enter into negotiations with potentially anti-authority humans aged between 2 and 11yrs old! Let’s just say the treaty we created for our time together was not honoured by either party and we became vulnerable to a serious relationship breakdown. Enter husband/Grandfather and now referred to as “the guy who saved the holidays”. He came home every afternoon like a knight in shining armour and saved us from ourselves with a fresh perspective, humour and total acceptance of all of us. Yay for that guy!
Though, in between the not so PACEful moments, we managed to have some good old-fashioned fun. I have included a photo of two of the younger members of the holiday crew enjoying Nana’s garden trolley in a muddy ditch on part of our driveway. We spent no less than four hours in the mud that day and a good time was had by all! I would love for you to share your good, bad and ugly holiday experiences with me on our facebook page: Caring Families Aotearoa Auckland South Support.

ur new workshop calendar is out and there are a lot of opportunities for you to expand your knowledge and understanding of PACE and Therapuetic Parenting. We are offering both face-to-face and online workshops including our Ako Ngātahi online series. The workshops provide a safe space for caregivers to share and learn more about their experiences with children and trauma. Click the button below for more information and to register. I look forward to seeing you there!
