Kia ora everyone,
Gosh just when you think you have time to catch your breath the school holidays sneak up on you and smack you right between the eyes! The spring school holidays are a chance to get the kids in the garden with me and enjoy the wonders of mixing dirt, water and seeds together to create yummy veges. However in our case the seeds often get left out of the mixing of the dirt and the water! I actually don’t mind the mud play. It’s better than the zombie screen monsters that I interact with these days.

Whatever your activities these holidays don’t forget to take some time for yourselves. You can find me hiding behind the garden shed with a cup of tea and biscuit during our next game of hide-and-seek!
Take care of yourselves.
TRAINING
In October we are running online training sessions, so you can learn from the comfort of your home, and a face to face session of Foundations For Attachment (FFA);
Foundations For Attachment – Therapeutic Training for Caregivers
The Foundations for Attachment programme is based on Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP) and explains the complexities young people have come to us with, along with the how and what we can do to provide healing. This training will take place in Manukau, Auckland.
The programme is comprised of one session a week for four weeks. After the four week period, we facilitate five peer support group meetings (monthly) as well as telephone support for up to six months. To gain the Foundations for Attachment certificate, participants must attend all sessions including the monthly follow up sessions.
The sessions will be held on the following dates:
- Session 1 – 03/11/2022 from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM
- Session 2 – 10/11/2022 from 09:00 AM to 02:30 PM
- Session 3 – 17/11/2022 from 09:00 AM to 02:30 PM
- Session 4 – 24/11/2022 from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM
We help caregivers to truly understand the inner lives of the children in their care who no longer trust that caring adults will keep them safe. We show them how to become engaged with the children and guide them into a world where good care can be received safely.
Changing our parental behaviours and “go-to” responses takes time and practice which is why this programme is delivered over a longer period.
Please register by 26 October – https://myols.net/caringfamilies/november-2022-foundations-for-attachment/details/information
Please also consider the online training sessions that are available to all.
Keeping PACE – National Conference
Our National Conference was so much fun! Our table did not win the Quiz and we struggled with answering some of the questions, but we laughed all the same. It was lovely to connect with so many caregivers from all around Aotearoa and thank you for sharing your experiences with me. I will post my photos on our facebook page.
The Waikato FASD group meet on the last Friday of the month at the Waikato Trust Community Rooms, Little London Lane, Hamilton from 10am – 12pm. If you would like to connect with others on your FASD journey come along a share a cup of tea with us.
Don’t forget the two closed Facebook groups in our region. Look us up and join, it is another way for caregivers to connect in a safe space with others who “get it”.
