Kia ora Lower North Caregivers,

I hope that you’re all keeping well and healthy over these winter months.

Do you know about audiobooks on Spotify? Your first month is free and then its $16.99 every month after that. Spotify has a great selection of therapeutic parenting books available for download. You can increase your knowledge basket while being on the go.

Books that I have downloaded include the A to Z of Therapeutic Parenting by Sarah Naish, and The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk. I encourage you to get your resources at a fraction of the cost!

Events

It’s Conference time!!  There are still some places left for Conference in September, but not many! We are in the beautiful Te Wai Pounamu/South Island, Christchurch to be specific. There is an amazing line-up of speakers and of course don’t forget our Conference dinner. To learn more about the Conference, or to register, click here. I look forward to connecting with you there.

L’Oréal for Youth is taking place on 9 & 10 October. Formerly called Face your Future, L’Oréal for Youth is an inspiring two-day camp for care-experienced rangatahi (young people) aged 16-18 years. There is still time to nominate your young person – click below to find out more.

We have also opened nominations for our Excellence in Foster Care Awards. Do you know an extraordinary caregiver in your community that deserves to be recognised for their incredible mahi (work)? These awards are a highlight on our calendar, recognising those amazing caregivers out there, and they are hosted in collaboration with Barnardos, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, Open Home Foundation and Kia Puāwai.

To nominate a caregiver today and find out more about the awards please click below.

Our key topic this month is Difficult Behaviours, Managing Confrontation and Intimidating Interactions. It looks at what’s going on behind the behaviour that triggers our children to become confrontational. How we, as caregivers, can provide support from a secure base, to build a secure attachment, while helping our child develop the skills they need to self-regulate.

We also have a range of other amazing caregiver training available this term. For a full list and to register for any of our upcoming courses please click below.

Remember we have our closed (private) members only Facebook page, which can offer support to you. To request to join the group, CLICK HERE.

Nga mihi,
