Manawatia a Matariki e te whānau,
What a crazy couple of months we’ve had since we last caught up! The lemon honey was a big hit with the kids and hubby, though it did somehow morph into a lemon meringue pie. Thanks so much to Olive who shared that she includes a bit of ginger in her lemon honey recipe. I will definitely give that a try.
So much happening around the rohe (region). The Bryn’s are closed, then they are open, and then there’s a slip. You really do have to keep a close eye on the Waka Kotahi website to check if you can drive it or not.
We managed to celebrate Matariki with the grandkids. It was awesome to be able to share marshmallows around the fire, tell stories of our grandparents and what it was like when we were kids. And the laughter from them at the revelation there was no Disney plus or Netflix! The cheek of it.
Training
I can tell you the corridors of National office have been abuzz as we prepared to roll out our Term 3 training calendar. Good news! It is out and accessible through our website. Though we are not able to deliver face-to-face in the Upper North this term, we have an abundance of online trainings right at your fingertips. If you are having trouble accessing our online sessions, please give our National Office a call on 0800 693 323 and they may be able to work through any technical difficulties you have prior to the workshop.
Events
It’s Conference time!! There are still some places left for Conference in September, but not many! We are in the beautiful Te Wai Pounamu/South Island, Christchurch to be specific. There is an amazing line-up of speakers and of course don’t forget our Conference dinner. To learn more about the Conference, or to register, click here. I look forward to connecting with you there.
L’Oréal for Youth is taking place on 9 & 10 October. Formerly called Face your Future, L’Oréal for Youth is an inspiring two-day camp for care-experienced rangatahi (young people) aged 16-18 years. There is still time to nominate your young person – click below to find out more.
We have also opened nominations for our Excellence in Foster Care Awards. Do you know an extraordinary caregiver in your community that deserves to be recognised for their incredible mahi (work)? These awards are a highlight on our calendar, recognising those amazing caregivers out there, and they are hosted in collaboration with Barnardos, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, Open Home Foundation and Kia Puāwai.

NETWORKING
I have recently had the pleasure of making a new friend. Her name is Michelle, and she is from the Brain Bloom Room. Michelle and her team of ‘Neuro Coaches’ walk alongside individuals and families facing learning and behavioural challenges such as Dyslexia, ADHD, ADD, Sensory Processing issues, Autism Spectrum Disorders and many more. It is Michelle’s hope that the holistic approach of their Rewire Programme will benefit everyone looking to get to the ‘root’ cause of learning and behavioural challenges. Click below to find out more.
If you need any support or just to talk please do not hesitate to contact me! Also, don’t forget our closed private Facebook page which can offer support. Please click here to join and also see the latest news about upcoming support group catch-ups, events and Training.
Noho ora mai, take care, keep well.
