How nice it is to be seeing the sun in Ōtautahi after so much rain. Driving to work this week I saw so much snow on the alps and it’s only February! Here’s hoping for an Indian summer.

Unfortunately, due to the increase in positive Covid-19 cases, we have needed to postpone our in-person events for Foster Care Awareness Week (7-13 March). However, Caring Families Aotearoa are excited to offer two virtual events on Wednesday the 9th of March. Come and join in from the comfort of your home (11am or 8pm). We have an international speaker, Sarah Naish (UK), providing a bespoke presentation for our Caregivers in Aotearoa! Some of you may recognise Sarah from videos we have used in previous trainings, (have a google of her YouTube recordings). I know that you will be in for an entertaining hour. Sarah has lived experience as a foster & adoptive mum and has a unique and entertaining way of sharing her journey. She has a wealth of knowledge about trauma and therapeutic parenting. I hope you can join us for either of the times available.  Click here to register.

As well as face-to-face trainings I’ve also been busy delivering ‘Making Changes’ – online training. This online training is becoming more popular as some of us are reluctant to head out. Again, you can join in from your own home, jump online for the training and link up with others across Aotearoa.

If you’re interested to see what’s coming up, click here to see the calendar.

This term’s training ‘Making Changes’ has reminded me of this quote by Tina Payne Bryson (who co-wrote the book: The Power of Showing Up with Dan Seigel):

What produces deep and lasting success for kids?
A secure attachment to a caregiver who shows up.

How do we provide that secure attachment?
First, by developing a coherent narrative that makes sense of our own early life experiences.

(A coherent narrative is essentially a story that makes sense. A coherent narrative is one of the things that helps us to integrate new information with what we already know, so that we can heal and move on).

Support/Gathering Groups
Another virtual event that is increasing in popularity is our monthly virtual support group. Register and jump online and link up with other caregiver members from across the motu. If you are interested to attend one of these groups or just hear more about them, let me know.  Register for the next group here

Me tiaki, noho pai.  Take care and stay well.
