CEO Message September 2024

Kia ora

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads who are raising their children with love, patience and a good dose of fun. You’re doing such an important job – we all need fathers and father figures in our lives and what you say and do will mean something significant to the children in your care. Enjoy your special day.

We are now officially counting down the days to our National Conference, Picking up the PACE! I’m really looking forward to seeing those of you who can join us in Christchurch later this month. Registrations are still open, so it’s not too late to make plans – it will be a wonderful two days of personal growth and networking for caregivers.

Connecting with others is so important for our mental health, so I’d like to remind you that we are here for you and only a phone call away.

Our Regional Coordinators are pretty special people – not only do they have an in-depth knowledge of Aotearoa’s care sector and its idiosyncrasies, they are also good listeners, very empathetic and will go in to bat for you where needed. They are more than happy to share relevant information with you, including available training courses and community support groups.

Providing a safe and loving home for a child who needs one is incredibly worthwhile, but I know just how hard it can be at times. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you are feeling isolated or exhausted at any point of your caregiving journey – you are not in this alone.

You can find contact details for a Regional Coordinator near you here or call us on 0800 693 323 and one of our lovely kaimahi (team members) will put you in touch with the right person.

Noho ora mai (Stay well, look after yourself, bye for now)

Linda Surtees
