Kia ora East Coast whānau,
James here with another month’s snippets. I hope things are going better for you all…well, better than last month! It has been for me – the school holidays have been great spending time with whānau. We did not go anywhere, we just had fun at home, and I gotta say, it surprised me how cool that was. My tamariki and I enjoyed going out for an ice cream together, see the picture below!
I do have some exciting news, I feel its time to reinstate our face to face trainings in Napier and Gisborne (mark 7th June in Napier and 8th of June in Gisborne in your calendars – more details below). These trainings will be facilitated by the one and only Nyvonne Krause.
Nyvonne has been with us as our Auckland South Regional Coordinator for over four years, and has recently moved into a new role titled Kaitakawaenga. Her background in caring is huge and she is very experienced. I encourage you to come along and learn from her.
Heading Back to School
When kids go back to school lots of triggers can arise, so give them time to settle in and remember that you set the tone. If you’re heightened, the children (big and small) in your homes/whare, will be too. Go on, try PACE: Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy. If you’re not sure what PACE is, give me a ring, I’d love to share with you what we’ve learnt as caregivers, it’s changing our household. I like the message in this image; it serves as a good reminder when I need it, and I hope it helps you too.
SUPPORT
Remember I’m always here for over the phone support. My hours are Wednesday to Friday, 9:00am – 2:30pm, so please get in touch if you need to talk. My number is 027 204 6908.
We are always interested in assisting caregivers to connect and share together. If you feel you would like to start a support group in your area, please contact me to help you get a group up and running.
Don’t forget our Private Facebook Group for support too. This group is only open to our caregiver members, so you have the freedom to air your thoughts without judgement. Everyone in the group gets what you’re going through. Click below to join.
