Face Your Future 2021
On the 21st of April 41 rangatahi made their way to the L’Oréal NZ Academy in Auckland to attend Face Your Future 2021. Some of the teenagers from outside of Auckland had their first plane trip and for many, it was their first time staying in a hotel. Face Your Future is two days dedicated to care experienced youth aged between 16 to 18.
Over the two days, the youth heard from guest speakers and participated in workshops that made them think about what they might do and were given the opportunity to ask any questions.
All food, accommodation, and travel costs were covered by L’Oréal and Caring Families Aotearoa. The rangatahi and staff from outside of Auckland also enjoyed a group trip to play laser tag in the evening!
Caregiver of youth who attended Face Your Future this year sent us this email:
“Last week my Foster Daughter was in Auckland for this year’s Face Your Future with L’Oréal. We were met at the airport by Jennifer from Caring Families Aotearoa, who was wonderfully welcoming and kind. My daughter is usually very shy and reluctant with new people, however after meeting Jennifer at the check-in, she turned and told me “I could go now!”
She had a ball in Auckland with the hotel, food, and activities. But what I loved the most was the way she came home and told me about the messages from the speakers!
L’Oréal was incredibly generous with the products and prizes they gave the young people and none of it has been taken for granted in my house. Thank you to both organisations for giving my beautiful girl such an amazing experience!”
