We were very excited to hear Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announce that the numbers for inside events, under Red, would move from 100 to 200. This means that should we still be in the ‘traffic light system’ and under Red in September we are most likely going to be able to carry on with our face to face conference. We can’t wait to meet all the wonderful delegates and share wonderful stories with each other. At the end of the day though, the safety of our delegates and staff is most important and we will have a Plan B, virtual event, ready to go.
Great line up of keynote speakers
We are excited to announce the line up of keynote speakers for this years’ conference. Our international and national speakers will ensure you keep the PACE in your care whānau.
Dr Dan Hughes and Dr Jon Baylin from America are the pioneers in their field. Dan is a clinical psychologist specialising in the treatment of children and youth who had experienced abuse and neglect and is the founder of DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psycotherapy). Jon has been working in the mental health field for 35 years. For the past fifteen years, he has immersed himself in the study of neurobiology and in teaching mental health practitioners about the brain. They have been working collaboratively for many years presenting at conferences and have published Brain Based Parenting.
Dr Joe Tucci, from the Australian Childhood Foundation, will explore the intricacy of how therapeutic change actually occurs and how that change takes hold over time. Joe is a registered psychologist, a social worker and author with significant experience in child protection and working therapeutically with children. He has worked in the field of child abuse and childhood trauma for the past 30 years.
For the last five years Sally Moffatt and Rob Surtees have been training caregivers and social workers to use therapeutic parenting in their everyday lives. In this keynote they will show you the difference an attitude of PACE will have in your whānau and how to adapt it into your everyday life.
Over the last five years, a whole new porn landscape for young people has emerged. Nikki Denholm will provide you with information on how we can equip our rangatahi to positively navigate the new online porn landscape through building porn literacy and resiliency; tools for shame-free and helpful conversations; responding to tricky porn related questions and issues; and how to mitigate harm through youth assessment tools and support. Nikki specialises in sexual health and founder of the The Light Project, which aims to equip young people and their whānau to navigate the new online porn landscape.
