Kia ora koutou,
Well, here we are again at the end of another year!
With Christmas just a few short weeks away, it’s easy to start feeling overwhelmed by our busy lives – finishing up at work for the year, school prizegivings, family gatherings to organise, and of course, Christmas shopping (I still haven’t started mine)! So with that being said, remember the importance of self-care. Take some time to unplug and do something that brings you joy – for me that looks like taking a walk, spending time outside on our little block of land, or watching a movie.
Christmas can also be a tough time for our tamariki in care, who may be experiencing some pretty complex emotions. This is a great time to practice your therapeutic parenting and put PACE into action to help them feel safe and secure. We’ll also be posting a few tips on our social media pages over December about how you can support your children this Christmas, so make sure you’re following us there.
I’d like to extend a big thank you to each and every one of you. Your unconditional love and dedication to the children in your care continues to inspire me. I know it’s not always easy, and this year has no doubt had it’s challenges, so well done on making it through.
Our National Office will be closed from Friday 22nd of December and reopen on Monday 8th January. If you experience an urgent matter during this time involving allegations, please call 0800 693 278.
Meri Kirihimete (Merry Christmas) from myself and the team at Caring Families Aotearoa. We hope you have a safe and happy holiday, and are looking forward to reconnecting with you in 2024.
Until then, Tiaki i a koutou anō (look after yourselves).
Linda
