In 2023, we hosted hui in Auckland South, Central North, and the Lower South, which were attended by over 70 caregivers. Have a look at the highlights below!
Auckland South Hui
Theme: Navigating the family court and maintaining wellbeing
This hui gave caregivers essential insight and understanding to help them navigate the family court and legal process, with presentations by Family Court Kaiārahi, an Open Home Foundation social worker, Family Court Lawyers, and the Ombudsman Office. The hui was finished with Tuihana Ohia, an inspirational wellbeing speaker.
What caregivers had to say…
Great array of speakers with a depth of knowledge…really enjoyed the day but most of all the chance to meet and chat with other carers and share stories and tips.
A magnificent day of learning, where my mind never strayed
Thanks for grouping these speakers together, it was hugely beneficial for me! Thank you for all you are doing at Caring Families to support me and all the others! I very much appreciate you.
Central North Hui
Theme: Give yourself permission
At this hui, attendees heard from speakers with expert knowledge from both an academic view and lived experience, around the importance of giving yourself permission to take a break and practice self care when it is needed. After the hui, attendees were treated to a soak at Waikite Valley hot Pools!
Tuihana was an excellent facilitator. She made everyone feel welcome, equal and comfortable to join in and share. Thank you so much for a wonderful day.
Lower South Hui
Theme: Pause, reflection, and community
This hui had something for everyone – an engaging talk from wellbeing speaker Tuihana Ohia, a whole food plant-based cooking demonstration which taught caregivers a budget-friendly meal for the whānau, and a presentation from the Ombudsman Office.
