Kia ora koutou,
We are into July and the school holidays are fast looming! Now is the time to start planning for those winter activities and the “Plan Bs” for those wet inside days. If any of you have some great ideas to share with others, please feel free to post them on our closed Facebook group. You will find the link further on. I encourage everyone to become a member in this group to stay updated on the notices and support groups that are available, it is a safe and inclusive place to ask questions of other caregivers too.

Training
Term 3 will see the emergence of our new therapeutic and trauma-informed trainings. I am so excited to be able to bring these to you, so please check the training calendar for dates that are available near you. There are also online topics available and our regular Ako Ngātahi modules that can be accessed both during the day and again in the evening.
First up next term is “What’s Behind the Behaviour – Healing Centred Engagement” which explores the importance of emotional connection with children. The idea is to parent in a way that meets the behavioural, developmental, and therapeutic needs of the child. This DDP informed workshop has an emphasis on ‘connection with correction’ to provide a secure and safe base for the child.

Support Groups
Also in term 3, look out for the online support groups that we are establishing for those that can’t get out for the daytime options.
There is some exciting progress in the FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) community here in Nelson. There is a Charity newly established that would be very keen to hear from those that wish to be involved. You can contact me for further information.
Our support groups are building throughout the region and I wish to sincerely thank those special caregivers that spearhead them. It was apparent in my last workshop how important support is to caregivers and I would encourage you to pop along to one of the groups. The contact details are below.
